MUSEUMSNACHT KÖLN

Cologne Night of Museums: #exploreyourmuseums

One night, 44 art locations, 200 events – you are cordially invited to the 18th edition of the Cologne Night of Museums by Stadtrevue Verlag and Stadt Köln! Besides extraordinary exhibitions, the program offers concerts, readings, DJ sets and theater plays – art is not limited to paintings hanging on the wall. There aren't any spatial limitations either – four bus tours connect all venues and offer an easy transfer that is free of charge for all art loving night owls.
DISCOVERING COLOGNE WITH ALL SENSES
Are you ready for a new view of the city? Electro sounds in Roman masonry, video games between designer furniture, or a concert at the exhibition hall of the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst – themed with the slogan #exploreyourmuseums, selected art locations can be discovered until the crack of dawn.

ENTERTAINMENT FOR KIDS
Is art only for grown-ups? Not at all! We have prepared a colorful program for children and families. Several special guided tours – for example with flashlights – satisfy the beginners' thirst for knowledge and pique their curiosity for more. Designing an individual super hero, tinkering Japanese decoration, or saving the whole world – creative workshops, theater plays, comic-readings cater especially to kids.
THE MUST-SEES
The current exhibition "Tintoretto – A Star was Born" at the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum is extraordinary: Young Tintoretto, the pop star of the 16th century Italian art scene, revolutionized the art world with his unconventional ideas, provocation and enthusiasm for experimenting. With the newly opened special show "Expedition Mittelalter", visitors can dive into the Middle Ages. Otherwise hidden treasuries are brought to light by Museum Schnütgen. A specially designed comic book guides through the exhibition. In contrast the MAKK offers "Im Spielrausch": An exciting trip into the world of games, marked by victory and defeat, the thrill of the chase and excess.

NEWCOMERS OF THE YEAR
Exciting! Four new venues are waiting to be discovered and explored. The Atombunker Köln-Kalk opens its steel doors. The subway station Kalk-Post is the meeting point, but on your own, you will neither find the entrance nor your way through the underground world... your online reservation in advance for a guided tour is needed! Not far away, the next freshman awaits you: The Ausstellungsraum für Brauchbarkeit is full of young art. We won't reveal anything but: The current show is about Japanese tool sheds. The artothek offers art works for rent, even large-scale pieces. Last but not least: LTK4 – five building blocks piled upon one another form a bell tower in the southern part of the city. This arrangement is exciting in itself and offers a surprising amount of space for contemporary sound art.
JEWELS OF THE PROGRAM
During the Cologne Night of Museums stars, newcomers and luminaries off the beaten track meet and provide unforgettable moments. Actress Nina Hoger lends Käthe Kollwitz her voice: She reads excerpts of diaries, letters and biography in a touching and compelling way. Actor Kai Schumann – well-known from the TV series "Heldt" – also lines up: At Wallraf-Richartz-Museum he exclusively reads from Hanns-Josef Ortheil's new novel "Der Typ ist da". Music connoissoirs won't get a raw deal either. Finest Reggae awaits you at Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum: Sebastian Sturm, star of the European Roots Reggae scene, puts his audience in blissful buzz. At Römisch-Germanisches Museum Fabrizio Cammarata also unites the cultures with his music. The Sicilian singer-songwriter draws from multiple resources, including Cuban and African music as well as Bob Dylan and Nick Drake. At the very end the cherry on top: The legendary aftershow party KOMPAKT GOES LUDWIG with selected Techno Music until 5 am.

LAST CHANCE
During the Cologne Night of Museums, several exhibitions can be visited "last-minute". The Kölnisches Stadtmuseum will be showing "Konrad der Große - Köln in den Jahren 1917-1933" until 19th November. The exhibition visualizes how this period of changes influenced the city of Cologne. There will also be a last chance for a rendezvous with Wonder Woman: At Cöln Comic Haus it's all about this prototypical super heroine. A must not only for blockbuster and comic addicts but also for every feminist! Kunsthaus Rhenania, situated on the river, awaits you with open studios, thrilling performances and the closing event of the exhibition "Aufwachen in Istanbul".
